Bill Delay—Direct descendant of Captain John Parker of the Lexington Minutemen
When I embarked on this project, I knew that a lot of people would think that a logical place to photograph them would be at the Minuteman statue. I patiently held out until I lined up Bill Delay, who is a direct descendant of Captain John Parker, who is depicted in the statue. Bill is a former captain of the Lexington Minutemen and third-consecutive generation of his family involved with the Minutemen. Gracious and self-effacing, Bill can trace his ancestry to The Mayflower. The statue is probably the most photographed object in Lexington, but it’s a lot tougher to photograph than it looks. I was half-laying on Massachusetts Avenue trying to frame it correctly, but eventually, when the light came down in the sky and the light popped on the statue, we had our Minuteman photo.
